I believe some of us might've been stumped with the fact that we can't convert VHS/DVD to VCD, and even if we employ others to do it, it's expensive...even the hardware that is attached to your system, say a capture card or a DVD-ROM Burner would be quite expensive. Sicne we are talking about prices eh...here I am, making a discovery. I was doing household chores a few days ago when I saw a particular advertisement on TV, advertising a recordable VCD player...I went to Safe Superstore and discovered this: AMOISONIC VDR Recordable Cideo Disc Recorder VDR2000MKII www.amoisonic.com> Input from various source - camcorder, TV, DVD, VDR, Cd, VCD, SVCD > CD-R and CD-RW disc Recordable > Selectable recording format 0 VCD(250lines), SVCD(350lines) or CDDa format > Real-time recording > Forever preserve your precious pictures, movies and music > recording your voice directly through the microphone > Make your own MTV or Movie > Single Track Easing Function (CD-RW) > Unfinalizing Function (CD-RW) > Multiple playback Mode > Multiple Languages OSD and Large VFD > Remote Control Unit > Terminals: AV Input/Output, S-video Output/Input SOUND GOOD? Wait till you see the "good" price - at a whopping SG$899!!! But anyway, it's a good piece of technology isn't it?

Well I'm not sure, but I think I have a much cheaper alternative to what you have suggested, Luke-san.
If you go to any of the computer hardware shops, you'll probably be able to find this thing call 'Dazzle Digital Video Creator'. It allows you to convert your VHS/V8s to MPEG format. Granted it's not able to do DVD at the moment, but I think it's still pretty useful.
And mind you, it cost at least a good $600 cheaper than that whatever amoisonic thing. At the moment I have manage to stun this Dazzle thingy from my boss in camp and I find it a wonderful little tool.
So for the rich kids on the block perhaps you'd like to think about getting one. ;D
